Discovering Nodes

This guide walks you through discovering nodes in your network and adding them to your map.

Note: The first three steps detail Ping Sweeping, which is highly recommended to ensure full functionality of the discover function, however it is optional.


Ping Sweep Process

Step 1: Locate the Ping Sweep Widget

Click the > button on the widget to expand the list of interfaces.

Step 2: Interface Selection

Note: Interface results will differ device to device

Click to unselect any interface that you do not have permission for or any you don't wish to discover nodes on.

Step 3: Start Ping Sweep

Click the sweep icon to start the service. The icon will change to green once it's started and return to white when it's finished.

Node Discovery Process

Step 4: Open Discover Section

Click the Discover icon at the top of the main panel.

Step 5: Select Discover Preferences

Select any interface which you wish to discover devices on as well as the optional detection functionality. Then click search!

Step 6: Choose Interface

Note: Only 1 interface is shown in the following image due to only 1 being selected at the start of discovery. The number of interfaces shown will match the number of interfaces selected at the start of discovery.

Click the interface found to expand it into the discovered nodes.

Step 7: Complete Form

Note: Many form fields should be prefilled for each discovered node to simplify the process. However this differs based on how much information is found for that node during discovery.

Select the node you wish to add to the map, and then complete the 3-step form like as done in a manual node addition.

Helpful Tip

Running a ping sweep before discovery significantly improves the number of devices found and the amount of data collected for each device.
